Meet our Superhero of the Month for June: Marla Harchut!
Marla walked into Mo-Mentum Fitness about two and a half years ago. Immediately I knew she was a hard-working, determined woman, and she is one of the most dedicated women I have met. Marla has a beautiful, bright smile and she’s incredibly kind and approachable. When I met her, she was working hard on being successful in her career, on being a supportive mother and wife, a great friend, and on serving her community here in Huntington Beach. She was working hard on everything and everyone, EXCEPT herself. This is the story of many women I meet. Marla was living an incredible life, but she wasn’t getting to be present to enjoy it because her body, mind and spirit were all so tired.
Since Marla started at Mo-Mentum, we’ve been privileged to watch her continuously bloom into her vibrant self. Marla is an INCREDIBLE example of how much better you will feel, perform and experience life when you fill your cup so you have more to share. When we make our health a priority, everything in our lives works better because we are stronger outside and inside.
I’ve witnessed a lot of life happen to (some would say “for”) Marla in the past 2.5 years. I’ve witnessed her lean into her life ALL while putting her health and wellness first so she could better serve her loved ones and the people who need her, and I’ve witnessed Marla lean into her health and fitness goals this year and reach those goals!
Marla rarely misses her opportunity to exercise. If she’s staying at her house in the desert, she shows up on Zoom. If she has a meeting that interferes with her exercise time she shows up on Zoom or switches her class from evening to morning. Marla’s health has become a non-negotiable for her. She doesn’t always “feel” like coming to her exercise sessions, but she NEVER regrets showing up!
Marla is dedicated to her family and work, so she exercises to stay healthy, vibrant, and strong, keep her mind right, and meet the energy demands of her family and work. Marla also gets to travel more now that her kids are grown up, and she can now live all out on her vacations.
Marla has transformed her habits over time and didn’t have to give up anything….however she gained a whole lot of energy, vibrance and confidence in the process!

When we have our health, we can have 1000 dreams and goals. Without our health, we can only have one….to get our health back.
We chose Marla to be the Superhero of the month for June because she is a perfect example of how putting your health and wellness first will not only help you live your best life, it will also help you be the person you aspire to be for the people in your life who mean the most to you.
Marla is a bright light constantly inspiring the people around her, she’s constantly learning and sharing what she learns she shows up for her life with enthusiasm and love. Marla is a gift to our Mo-Tribe community.

Age: turning 58 years old in June
Job: I am a publisher for two local community magazines in Huntington Beach, “Seacliff Living” and “HB Coastal Living.” I am also the OC Market Manager for Best Version Media who hires and trains others to become publishers. Family: married to husband, Glenn, have 3 children, and a needy doggie named Sadie
Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.
Before fitness, I spent most of my time taking care of others. I worked very long hours every day and would always make excuses as to why I couldn’t work out! I never prioritized “ME”!
Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?
When I first met Amanda, I remember her being very direct and saying, “If you don’t take care of yourself, then who will?” …. She was so right! My priorities were so messed up and I had it all wrong! I never put myself first, and instead I always made excuses as to why I could not work out. Amanda helped me realize that to truly be there for my family, enjoy life, and live life to the fullest, I needed to make sure that I was being healthy and taking care of myself!
How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?
I met Amanda about 2.5 years ago. She helped me realize that I needed to get stronger for ME! If I am not healthy and strong, then my quality of life could be jeopardized! I have learned to make me the # 1 priority, schedule and plan my workout programs, understand how it’s impacting my life and feeling accomplishment for me!
What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program
I am so much stronger, more energized, and my mind is so much clearer! Attitude makes a difference – I am the priority! I love the way I feel when I work out because it gives me more energy and I forget about all the things I need to do for the day when I am having fun in the class! It gives “Me” time to get what I am there for; release and get more energy, get stronger, and build endurance.
Let’s focus on blood work. What kind of changes have you seen there? What do these changes mean for your lifestyle, longevity, finances, etc.?
I am not on any medicine.
Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?
I feel so much better when fitness is a priority in my life! Working out allows me to get stronger and leaves me feeling accomplished for the day!
These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?
I take each day as a new day and focus on doing my BEST! Getting your head right each day is most important so when you feel better your attitude is best!
How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?
I feel sooo much stronger than I was 1 year ago, and I really love working out now!
What is your favorite thing about Mo-Mentum Fitness?
The tribe! The People! Everyone is so supportive and likes to have FUN! I look forward to saying hello to other members and getting lots of good laughs! I also love the “Perfect 12” tracking board that shows how many visits per month. It’s a great motivation and helps keeping you active throughout the month.
What would you say to the person who knows they need to start exercising but is afraid to start?
Put your fears aside! Try new and different things! You may learn to love things that you never have tried before. I remember trying my first spin class and worried that I could not keep up. Now it’s my favorite thing to do and I can’t wait to get on the bike!
What have you learned from Mo-Mentum Fitness?
- Being engaged and having accountability! – Pick a friend or a trainer that you are committed to meeting and stick to the plan! Join small groups to meet new friends or simply meet a new friend at a class. Have an accountability partner or someone that you just like to say hello and smile to. I used to have a trainer, Marlo, who would meet me at every workout session. This was helpful to stay accountable.
- Schedule & plan your workout sessions! – In the beginning of the week, I look at my calendar to see when and what classes I will attend. I am a person that likes a routine schedule, so knowing when I must be at the gym, it requires less thinking when it comes time to work out, I just show up.
- Discipline and follow through – When my schedule is planned, it creates peace and calmness throughout the week. If I know I have to be at a place then my mind does not take me down that road of questioning or giving excuses, I just know I have to show up.
- Self-reflection – reflecting the positive things that you did for that day and being the Best that I could be for that day!
- Everyone needs to have Amanda Mittleman in their life because she truly cares and helps people get their minds right and holds us accountable. I greatly love and owe her my life!
