5 Healthy Thanksgiving Side Dishes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]By: Tami Martina

Thanksgiving is almost here and 2017 is almost over so why not try some different sides to go with your Turkey Day Feast 🙂 The typical side dishes such as yams loaded with brown sugar and topped with marshmallows , boxed stuffing, sugary canned cranberry sauce, etc. are not the healthiest when it comes to nutrition per calorie.  Everyone tends to get full on Thanksgiving so why not  fill up on nutrient rich foods and NOT feel terrible and be in a food coma for the rest of the night.

Below you’ll find some delicious Thanksgiving inspired side-dish recipes that won’t pack seven pounds on your thighs and belly!   And another plus, these veggies and fruits are all in season so they will be easy to find (and usually cheaper!).

  1. Garlic Sauteed Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

Brussel Sprouts are full of vitamins, great for your health, and taste amazing with bacon

2.Spinach Salad with Roasted Beets, Pomegranate, Pecans, Bacon, and Goat Cheese

This salad is amazing tastes and so pretty with the bright red beets and pomegrante arils. I like to dress it with a homemade honey balsamic vingerette. Also if you if want to skip on the goat cheese and bacon it’s just as good!

6 cups baby spinach ( You can do a spinach/ Kale mixture too!)

2 Diced Roasted Beets ( these take awhile so maybe make ahead of time 🙂 Beets are high in potassium

1- 1 ½  cups Pomegranate Arils

½ pound of crispy bacon

Top with walnuts or pecans and goat cheese ( optional)

  1. Spaghetti Squash with Sauteed Garlic Mushrooms and Pesto Sauce

1- Steamed Spaghetti Squash

10 ounce package of mushrooms sliced and sauteed with olive oil and garlic salt and pepper

-Top Spaghetti Squash with Sauteed mushrooms and Spinach Basil Pesto

  1. Creamy Butternut Squash and Apple Soup

This is one of my all time favorite Fall Soups! I love using the coconut milk to make it creamy. It has the perfect sweet and savory blend.

  1. Three Ingredient Cranberry Sauce

Cranberries are full of antioxidants and a staple to any Thanksgiving Dinner but it doesn’t have to be made with refined sugar! Stick with honey or pure maple syrup to sweeten it up. I love homemade cranberry sauce and this easy 3 ingredient sauce gives you options to add to make different flavors. My personal favorite is to add pickled jalapenos. I know it sounds kinda of crazy but the sweet and spicy is so good 🙂

Try all or some of these recipes out this Thanksgiving and let me know what you think!
