Superhero of the Month – Sabrina Scudiero

“I have known Sabrina Scudiero for over 6 years now.  She is an incredible woman, a super hero and athlete through and though.  When Sabrina heard she had been chosen as our Super Hero of the month she told Ally and I that she didn’t think she was a great choice because she hadn’t overcome anything extraordinary.

Ummmm…..definitely not true!  We chose our super hero of the month based on struggles that have been over come, courage that our super hero’s display, light house attitudes, and many more attributes.  Most of our super hero’s are shocked when we chose them and they all feel about the same way! Our Mo-Tribe super hero’s work so hard to create extraordinary lives that they don’t even realize they are inspiring others!

Sabrina is one of the most determined women I have ever met.  She LOVES to exercise, move and challenge her body. She is a bright happy light at Mo-Mentum.  She’s welcoming to our newest members and just fun to talk to. If you need something Sabrina is there to help.

Sabrina is also humble!  We recently found out that she is one of 10 athletes at California State University, Long Beach to score more than 1000 points in her athletic career.  Sabrina was a STAR women’s basketball player for CSULB. Next time you are inside of the Pyramid at CSULB look up on the walls and you will see one of the 10 honored athletes is none other than our very own Mo-Tribe Sabrina Scudiero!

Sabrina, you are a true superhero and inspiration! “

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness

“I can’t remember not being active.  I have an older brother and I used to hang out with him and his friends playing football, baseball, bike riding, skate boarding.  Freshman year in high school I was asked to try out for the girls basketball team.  I made the team and really enjoyed playing.  After working hard in high school, I had 7 offers to play in college.   I chose to attend Long Beach State where I received a full scholarship to play basketball. College basketball was very demanding and had to keep my fitness up if I wanted to remain a starting player.”

Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?

When my mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2006-2007, I chose to take care of her and spend quality time with her.  Fitness was not a priority for about a year during that time.”

How did fitness come into your life (back into your life)?

After my mom passed away in 2007, I hadn’t really worked out in a year.  I decided to go back and began to train with a friend at her gym and the passion came back for fitness.  I was depressed as well  and getting back into fitness definitely helped..

What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?

Having fitness as apart of my life has helped maintain a healthy weight and helped with my endurance. I enjoy running hills, stairs and ride my road bike.  I have increased energy, more confidence in myself because I feel so good.  I enjoy having relationships with people who have fitness as their passion too..”

Please talk more about the actual changes in your life. (Weight loss, confidence, more endurance, less medications, increased energy, better relationships, etc.)

My doctor can tell I workout and tells me to continue what I am doing.  My blood work and blood pressure is always perfect.  My blood pressure and heart rate are always very good.  My doctor can tell from my resting heart rate that I exercise and take care of myself.  A healthy life style will hopefully help me live a long healthy life and by staying healthy and going to the doctor less, this will help me with my finances because i would rather spend the money on staying healthy than being unhealthy and having to go to the doctor all the time.

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

Fitness has always been a priority.  I hope to live a long healthy life.  I don’t want to depend on anyone taking care of me and i want to run around with my grand children and travel.

These days, what makes you truly happy and feel at peace?

Happiness comes from spending time with my kids and family and of course my Faith.

How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?

I feel great compared to 1 year ago.  As long as I can continue to workout and run, I am happy that my health is excellent, thanks GOD.”
