August 2022 Superhero: Kate Davis

Meet our Superhero of the Month for August: Kate Davis!

Kate joined Mo-Mentum Fitness in the summer of 2021.  Since the day Kate started with us, it was obvious she would fit in well at Mo-Mentum.  Kate has a bright, warm and welcoming smile and personality.  She’s a vibrant and determined woman.

Like all of our superheroes of the month (which always amazes me) she was surprised she was chosen as a superhero of the month.  Kate’s doing what she believes is best for her everyday.  How could this be a super power?

The answer is easy.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock, we all know that mindset, exercise and nutrition and community are essential ingredients to living our healthiest, most vibrant lives.  Unfortunately, 80% (maybe more) of American’s choose to allow excuses to get in the way of creating a lifestyle that helps them live their healthiest and most extraordinary lives.

When you make your health and vitality a priority, you make time.  I’m not talking perfection, just action…. imperfect is perfect!

Kate shows up with a smile even on days she “doesn’t feel like showing up.” She knows that she’ll feel better after she moves her body.  Kate also knows she doesn’t have to exercise at 100% or even 80% of her capacity every day.  Showing up is the key.

Kate started back to exercise, like so many people, when the world reopened after Covid.  She got a taste of the sedentary lifestyle and knew she could do better for herself.  In addition, when we reach our 50’s way too many women are buying into the (very false) narrative that we need to slow down.  At 69 years young, Kate is vibrant and moving daily.  She’s continuing to build her muscle and break the status quo of aging.  I just gave away her age….but I guarantee, if you know Kate, you’re surprised she’s over the age of 60!

Kate is unstoppable!  Team Mo and I believe unstoppable people are superheroes.  In our world today, being unstoppable isn’t really supported.  Women like Kate don’t talk about change, instead they act.  In the year since I’ve known Kate, I know she is an ACTION-TAKER.

Kate is creating her future instead of hoping for “good luck” with her health and vibrance.  She’s committed to learning how to eat better, move better, to keep her mind right, and to surrounding herself with people who support her in creating a healthy, vibrant and happy life.

Taking action isn’t easy, it’s a superpower we are all born with but one we must practice daily so it becomes a superpower.  Kate is a beautiful example of turning action into a superpower.

Thank you for being so kind, vibrant and an action taker, Kate.  You’re inspiring more people than you know!

Love,

Amanda and Team Mo

A few words from our Superhero herself…

Specifics:

Age: 69 years old

Job: retired

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.

I’ve always had an active life, growing up there were no video games or cell phones around. Dieting or, more specifically, eating healthy was not a big part of my life when I was younger, but eventually, my health reflected my life choices and I had to change my eating habits and start exercising.

Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?

I’ve recently retired, my husband and I moved across the country (during the pandemic) and endured the 2-year lockdown.  Like so many other people,  I gained weight, and felt sluggish, stiff, and achy. I really hated not feeling like my normal, happy self. I struggled to find the motivation to start making the necessary changes in my life to feel better. I also sadly had to place both parents into nursing home, and if you ever need a wake up call …  visit.

How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?

When the quarantine was finally lifted, I knew I had to get moving again, so I did some research and found the perfect gym for me.

What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program

Walking through those doors put me on the path for living an active life again. I’m now able to enjoy biking, hiking, travel, and starting new activities. For example, I’m learning (at least trying) to play golf!

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

I want to have the best quality of life possible. Exercise keeps me not only physically strong, but mentally strong so I can enjoy the years I have with my family and friends. I’ve got so many things on my Bucket list.

HOW WE CHOOSE OUR SUPERHERO OF THE MONTH

Team Mo and I choose our SUPERHERO OF THE MONTH based on several important factors that we believe reflect the values on which the Mo-Mentum Fitness world-class culture has been built upon.

Mo-Mentum’s Core Values Include:

· Mindset for growth, constant never-ending learning – if you’re not growing, you’re shrinking.

· Over-deliver on all we do.

· Tribe – we all need a supportive and inspiring tribe, people we can be ourselves around and who nudge us to be one percent better every day.

· Transparency – We believe in honesty with ourselves and with others of course.

· Vitality – We believe in living vibrantly and living all out with courage and passion.
