Choose Your 1-word Empowering Theme the Rest of 2020

We are in the home stretch of 2020.  I can actually hear your responses as I’m writing this post to you.  YES! I’m ready for 2020 to just go away!

In the beginning of August, I started a program with my mentor, Todd Durkin, called Giant Sized Goals.  The day we began this program, I felt like some of the chains I had been carrying around were lifted off of my shoulders.  What changed to give me that relief?  ME!  I changed my focus.  I started focusing on what I wanted out of the next 90-days.  I am going to be sharing the program with you very soon!  I CAN’T WAIT!!

My friends, what we focus on grows.  If we continue to focus on the pandemic, the quarantine, the news, your limitations, your fears, other people’s short comings, we are going to drive ourselves insane.  Here’s the thing….the only person who has to live with your anger, fear and frustration is you and the people you love most.

I’ve heard so many people, including myself say that they are SOO ready for 2020 to be over.  But I’m going to ask you to consider something different.  Let’s just get really honest here; we all know the stress that attached itself to 2020 without our permission isn’t going anywhere.  It’s going to change forms, but it’s going to be here for a few more months.

The good news about this is that we just faced that reality so now we can move forward.

NO ONE has ever grown and developed strength (inside and out) under “comfortable” conditions.  So we have 2 choices….

  1. Grow
  2. Sit around and complain.

Growth is a basic human need, meaning, when we stay the same whether we are happy or not, we become depressed.  Humans thrive on growth and the universe has provided us with inescapable condition for just that.

To launch ourselves into the BEST last four months of 2020 with renewed energy and focus here’s your first assignment for September.

Take a few minutes (or maybe even a whole day) to think about how you really want to live through the next 4 months.  January 1, 2021, what will you say about these past 4 months, REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT.

Our circumstances don’t define the quality of our lives…..WE DO.

Your Assignment:

  1. Write down the word(s) that describe how you want to feel in these last four months of 2020?
  2. Write down 1-5 things you want to work on … or what inspires you?
  3. Write down 1-5 changes do you want to make in the next 4 months?

Your job is to pick JUST ONE WORD that resonates with you, and make it your mantra for the next 4 months.

Some possible words might come to mind as you consider all this:

Strong – Joyful – Connected – Resilient – Brave – Renewed – Grateful – Faithful – Peaceful – Loving – Inspiring – Confident – Present … there are SOOOO MANY incredible choices!

It doesn’t have to be a word from the list above – this word should be unique to YOU.

It should ignite an emotion within you – inspiration, relief, clarity – because of the meaning it carries for you.

Let this word fuel your thoughts and actions every single day.

Use it to clarify the decisions you’ll make, the actions you’ll take … and even how you view the people around you!

It’s incredible how ONE WORD can give a specific intention to everything you do. This will help you be more present and “in the moment.”  It will also help to remove the 45 pound chains from around your neck because you’ll be looking forward to what you want instead of what you don’t want.

Human brains are made to focus on the negative to protect ourselves.  But too much negative will only create more negativity.

Tips:

  • Look at your word first thing when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to sleep at night.
  • Post it on your desk.
  • Make it your screensaver (on your phone & computer!)
  • Repeat it a couple times a day.
  • This habit can fall by the wayside after a few days, so keep those reminders posted! (I put reminders in my phone at the times I want to remember to look at my word.)

 

Here’s my word: EMPOWER

One reason this is such an effective practice is that it’s SIMPLE.  It’s JUST ONE WORD.
