Superhero of the Month – Sheryl Hazen
“Sheryl is a force to be reckoned with at the gym! Her positive attitude and determination during tough workouts are a testament to her will power. No challenge is too big or too hard for Sheryl, and that’s the mind set that has led her to accomplish a 225lb deadlift, 185lb back squat and at least 4 unassisted and unbroken pull-ups. I am excited to see what this year holds for her in new PR’s, and new tests of mental and physical toughness”.

Q & A
Meet Sheryl, Mo-Mentum Fitness’s Superhero of January! She definitely is a superhero!
Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness
“There was never a time when fitness was not in my life, but in my 20’s and 30’s i worked a lot, drank more, ate differently. I definitely was not as healthy as I am now!”
Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?
“I would say about 2 years ago when I joined Mo-Mentum I started really getting kind of frustrated that I was working out a lot and not feeling or seeing much change in my body. That is when I started doing personal training, or maybe I just needed a big change.”
What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?
“Since I have been doing semi-personal training, I have definitely become much stronger and have accomplished things that I never would have tried and maybe even lost a few inches. In the past two years, I did a half iron-man, 2 Beast Spartan races in high altitude, and 3 other spartan races. I have definitely become way more competitive and determined now then I have ever been.”
Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?
“Staying fit is a major priority in my life, I try to workout everyday or at least do something active if I’m not at the gym. I do not feel at my best or great about myself unless i make this a priority. My husband is a 12 time iron-man on his way to the world championship and my son is a very competitive water polo player. So as a family this is very important to us.
These days, what makes you truly happy and feel at peace?
“My happy place is being with my family , we spend every summer on the North Shore of Kauai, swimming, hiking and surfing. And in the winter we spend weekends skiing in Mammoth. There is nothing I love more than this! Dylan, my son, has grown to also love being active and competitive.”
How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?
“Compared to one year ago I am definitely stronger and look more fit. I look forward to the year ahead, my fitness goals keep getting harder and I am determined to accomplish them!”
I am 44 years old, I have a 10 year old son and my husband ( who is also like having another kid). I am not sure there is a good “job title” for taking care of my family!
