Meet our Superhero of the Month for February: Kathy MacDonald!
I’m so excited to introduce you to Kathy MacDonald—affectionately known around Mo-Mentum Fitness as “K-Mac”—our February superhero of the month!
Kathy is a ROCKSTAR! She brings her incredible energy to every room she enters. It’s just who she is.
When Kathy started here at Mo-Mentum Fitness in Huntington Beach eight years ago, I immediately liked her! She has a big, beautiful smile and is one of the most loving women I know.
Kathy is also one of the funniest women I know! She is excellent at making people laugh and helping them find humor in the craziness of life.
Kathy was very nervous about exercising. She could barely perform a single lunge when she started. That’s why I love sharing about Kathy—because so many women can relate to her experience.
I Need to Lose Weight Before I Start Working Out … Fact or Myth?
I’ve heard countless women say it: “I need to lose weight before I start working out.”
But it’s just not true! I think this myth comes from a place of scarcity. Here are two reasons why women may believe the myth, along with suggestions for shifting that scarcity mindset into an abundance mindset.
- Scarcity: Women feel like they have to look the part before they should act the part.
Abundance Mindset: If you want to improve your life, then bravo! To do that, you need focus, self-love, and determination, NOT the perfect body.
- Scarcity: Women are worried that others at the gym will judge them for not already being at an ideal weight.
Abundance Mindset: At the right gym, you will find people who support you, hold you accountable, and EMPOWER you!
At Mo-Mentum Fitness, we welcome new members where they are. You don’t have to worry about “fitting in” or “looking good.” The point is, we’re here to support you in your journey to where you want to be. To help you live your most extraordinary life!
Never Negotiate With Exercise.
Some influencers claim that exercise doesn’t help you lose weight. Talk about a myth!
But the truth is, if you want to create your most vibrant, happy, and fulfilling life, you have to make exercise what we call “a non-negotiable.”
Exercise helps you build muscle. And healthy muscle is essential for moving freely.
Your brain, energy level, and your immune system all benefit from exercise. It also helps improve your mood.
As Kathy kept showing up to Mo-Mentum Fitness for small group personal training and group fitness classes, she noticed her mood brightening and her energy increasing.
Let me let you in on a little secret that Kathy discovered. Kathy manages a very busy, well-known hair salon—a stressful profession.
And she figured out that when she exercised, she was able to handle everyday stressors much better—as well as those pesky little fires that we have to put out oh so often.
Through her dedication to exercise, Kathy lost fat, gained lean muscle, toned her body … and she is still maintaining her weight loss, eight years later!
Don’t Try to Do It All by Yourself.
One of the most important factors Kathy has always talked about in her journey to success is her community, or her tribe. Let me explain why.
When you are working to transform your body, mind, and spirit, you also need to transform your habits.
But transforming habits is hard to do by yourself. You need a tribe to turn to—a compassionate group that offers you real accountability and support.
I had always wanted to create a tribe of loyal, supportive friends for myself, too. And now I can truly say this is one of the aspects of Mo-Mentum Fitness I am most proud of.
In addition to the joy of doing your taxes, some other constants in life are change, stress, and life complications. But having a tribe stand behind you, next to you, and cheering you on is essential for success.
Kathy plays a huge part in the success of our tribe here at Mo-Mentum Fitness. Kathy’s tribe, Mo-Tribe, doesn’t let her slip away or feel alone. And she does the same for other Mo-Tribe members. We don’t let our friends fall into our own stinking thinking!
Mo-Mentum Fitness Is Here to Help You Live Your Most Extraordinary Life.
A mentor of mine, Lisa Nichols, was on the Oprah show. She asked Oprah how many coaches she had. Oprah told Lisa she had five coaches. So the next year, Lisa Nichols added two coaches to her team, so that she too had five coaches.
You may not need five different coaches like Oprah and Lisa Nichols, but my point is, we ALL need a tribe of people to help us create and live our most extraordinary life.
NOBODY creates a successful life alone. And nobody needs to be alone!
Kathy has surrounded herself with people who love her, lift her spirits, cheer her on, and gently nudge her (and sometimes maybe not so gently) when she needs it.
So here’s a huge thank you to Kathy for being such an incredible, inspirational woman. Thank you for not giving up on yourself, especially when you first started exercising. Mo-Tribe is better because you are here. You make both Mo-Mentum Fitness and the world a better place!
We love you, KMac!
Amanda and Team Mo
A few words from our Superhero herself…
My life before Mo-Mentum was a cycle of quick fixes and fad diets. But exercise … no way!!! Then my friend invited me to a class at Mo-Mentum that her friend Susie was teaching, so I tried it.
I thought I was going to die and for sure I was never going back. But I met Amanda and she has a way of making you feel like you’ve got to keep going.
So go back, I did. Again, and again.
I had lived in HB for 13 years at that point but had yet to make any real friend connections here in Huntington. I would go to work, come home, go to work, come home.
A vicious cycle. It wasn’t until Mo-Mentum that I was able to meet some truly incredible women. All different, yet alike.
When you walk in that big red door you know you are going to hear someone call out your name and give you a hug. You’re going to have a great workout, sweat a lot, and have tons of laughs.
Has my body changed since Mo-Mentum? Sure has! I’ve lost about 30 lbs and gotten stronger and more mobile. But for me, more important has been my mental state and the happiness Mo-Mentum has brought to my life.
This is my sanity. This is my safe place. This is my happiness.
Thanks for making me Superhero of the Month. But Amanda, you are the real hero for giving us all this special place we can come to every day and call our home.
