Meet our Superhero of the Month for February: Marisa McElroy!
Marisa has been such a bright light in our gym, and we are so thankful that she chooses to get up in the morning and workout (or dance) with us!
Marisa loves to travel and is always going to beautiful places, so we have been so spoiled to have her with us continuously throughout the last few months.
Marisa is such a beautiful example of someone who radiates sunshine and joy. One of our favorite things about her is that she makes everyone feel so welcome. She is not afraid to reach out to new members, or even old members and making them feel comfortable and included in every class. She always lightens the nerves of new members by dancing and singing and showing people that this is a safe space to be yourself.
She is so selfless, and always puts those around her first. If you need help with anything going on in your life, Marisa is the first one to jump to help, we have been lucky enough to see that first-hand.
Fun fact about Marisa… She LOVES hip-hop. You can find her dancing in every single class she is in, and if 90’s or early 00’s hip-hop is playing, her is always rapping along!
If you need a good workout and a guaranteed smile, make sure you take a class with Marisa!
We love you Marisa, you are family and we’re so proud to get to call you the Mo-Mentum Fitness Superhero of February 2021.
A few words from our Superhero herself…
Specifics: age, job title, children, partner?
I am 60 years old. My husband Bill and I are both retired. We have 3 adult children. Meg, Steph & Tony!
Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.
I always worked out but after menopause I felt like a mess! I usually did a lot of cardio so stepped up my weights! I can thank Amanda for that! I started feeling so much better now!
Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?
Some might find it hard to believe but I’m pretty shy. When I started at Mo-Mentum I was a little intimidated by the smallness of the gym and that everyone knew each other already! But gotta tell you, the friends I have here are friends for life!
What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?
A few years back I found out I had full on osteoporosis. With meds & weightlifting, I have improved 50%!!!
Let’s focus on the blood work. What kind of changes have you seen there? What do these changes mean for your lifestyle, longevity, etc.?
As I said osteoporosis is way better and I’ve been able to keep my cholesterol under control and have not needed statins like many others in my family!
Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?
I know how I feel when I’m not working out… not great! So, it’s a habit I’ve made over time. It’s very social for me. In these COVID times I need to be with friends!
These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?
Being with friends at Mo-Mentum every morning starts my day right! I’ve been known to really beat to my own drum, and I love to dance! If great music is playing during workout, sorry not sorry-I’m dancing 💃🏼!!!
How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?
Well, a year ago in The US there was no COVID! That said, Mo-Mentum has been a saving grace for me! I’m not really into Zoom, I need the social aspect of working out! I’m glad I have other friends (The Bad Girls) see day to day to get through these crazy days!
Team Mo and I choose our SUPERHERO OF THE MONTH based on several important factors that we believe reflect the values on which the Mo-Mentum Fitness world-class culture has been built upon.
Mo-Mentum’s Core Values Include:
· Mindset for growth, constant never-ending learning – if you’re not growing, you’re shrinking.
· Over-deliver on all we do.
· Tribe – we all need a supportive and inspiring tribe, people we can be ourselves around and who nudge us to be one percent better every day.
· Transparency – We believe in honesty with ourselves and with others of course.
· Vitality – We believe in living vibrantly and living all out with courage and passion.
