July 2021 Superhero

Meet our Superhero of the Month for July: Nick Ortiz!

Nick Ortiz is the perfect Mo-Mentum Fitness Superhero for July 2021.  When Team Mo and I choose our superhero of the month, we are looking for a member who joined Mo-Mentum with a purpose; someone who is looking to create lifelong health and someone who leans into the tools we provide them to create their best life.  We are also looking for someone who inspires Mo-Tribe and beyond through their actions, because more than ever, our world needs to be reminded of the benefits of exercise even beyond weight loss and stronger muscles (of course those benefits are awesome too!)  Nick reminds us of why we do what we do and why we love what we do here at Mo-Mentum.

If you haven’t met Nick, you need to meet him.  Nick has a big contagious smile and a confident, friendly presence.  He’ll have you smiling and laughing in about 3.5 seconds.

When Nick started working out at Mo-Mentum he had goals, he wanted to create lifelong health and strength, and wanted to lose some fat, build his muscle, and feel and BE healthy.

Like all of us, there are some days when Nick’s list of “things to do” is long.  Some days I know Nick feels too tired to get his workout in, and some days I’m sure he’d rather sit on the couch and watch TV.  Instead however, Nick gets into his body and mind into Mo-Mentum anyways because his goals and his long-term health are more important to him than his excuses.  Nick walks in the doors of Mo-Mentum with a purpose, a smile and great stories!

It’s been really inspiring to watch Nick gain muscle, strength, and cardiovascular endurance.  The first time I met Nick, his picture made our social media posts.  In fact, we’ve used his picture several times.  Nick took one of our Zoom classes with Carrie early in the pandemic in 2020.  He made it through the class, which was impressive!  He just had trouble getting off the floor after his first workout.

Nick is a perfect example of starting from where you’re at and showing up every day because your goals are bigger than your excuses.  Thank you, Nick, for inspiring ALL of us and making us smile and laugh every day you are here!

You are an incredible inspiration, and we are so excited that you are the Mo-Mentum Fitness Superhero for July!

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.

There has always been interest in fitness in my life. There’s just never been a real dedicated program I could stick to. I’ve enjoyed tennis, basketball, hiking, (I’ve always loved running) but nothing ever sticks. My health has never been too bad other than smoking. I am lactose intolerant so avoiding dairy is simple. Watching the other things, I eat has not been a problem considering I went to culinary school early in life, so cooking is something I can do and like to do. Lots of fresh cooked meats and veggies.

Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?

Many things changed in late 2019 going into 2020. My sister was in the hospital with a lung disease (we think Covid). It was then I decided to stop smoking. A. to show her she could do it too, and B. because I was fearful for myself. She made it.

How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?

My wife started going to MO and I got jealous. LOL!

What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?

People are the best lens to see things through. When I see someone I haven’t seen in a while and they point out my shoulders, that makes me so happy. And in one word “ENERGY”. The energy you have from working out, which is strange because you are using energy, is incredible.

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

I don’t want to look back and wish I would have made the change sooner. In other words, I am putting in the work now so later when I am older, I can say “see, you did that!”

These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?

I enjoy days that me and my wife both get to go to MO together. I enjoy spending time with my niece and nephew. Even more so I enjoy evenings with Steve Mittleman, working with him and chatting is not only fitness, but also therapy. I look forward to waking up on Tuesdays and Wednesday because I know it ends with some time with him and weight class.

How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?

One word ‘AMAZING’! Having a workout regimen and sticking to it helps everything. I can’t wait for that ‘tired’ feeling you get at the end of a day of work and gym. The feeling of accomplishment. It’s what I’m looking for now.

Team Mo and I choose our SUPERHERO OF THE MONTH based on several important factors that we believe reflect the values on which the Mo-Mentum Fitness world-class culture has been built upon.

Mo-Mentum’s Core Values Include:

· Mindset for growth, constant never-ending learning – if you’re not growing, you’re shrinking.

· Over-deliver on all we do.

· Tribe – we all need a supportive and inspiring tribe, people we can be ourselves around and who nudge us to be one percent better every day.

· Transparency – We believe in honesty with ourselves and with others of course.

· Vitality – We believe in living vibrantly and living all out with courage and passion.

Love,

Amanda and Team Mo
