July 2023 Superhero: Yasi Jahanshahi

Meet our Superhero of the Month for July: Yasi Jahanshahi!

Training for life is what we do here at Mo-Mentum Fitness and it’s why we’ve chosen Yasi Jahanshahi as our Superhero of the Month for July!

She’s a mom of a sweet little toddler and she has another baby on the way.  Yasi is a woman who is training to live her most vibrantly healthy life.  When we are healthy, life is better all around.

Being a GiGi has been a great reminder about how demanding parenting little ones can be, physically, mentally and emotionally.  Our health is more important than ever when we are parenting our kids, and Yasi is such an incredible example of carving out time to fit her workouts into her busy life.

Yasi is a bright light at Mo-Mentum.  She’s determined, and fun and she shows up to her group fitness classes with a smile!  She’s joined Zoom classes when she can’t get here physically, she comes for half of a class and three quarters of a class when she’s short on time, instead of skipping class.  If you didn’t know this was an option…IT IS!  It’s ALWAYS better to show up and get a quick workout in than it is to miss your workout all together.

Yasi, we love that you are part of Mo-Tribe!  You are an inspiration and a bright light in our community and you make this world a better place!

Thank you for being our Mo-Mentum Fitness Superhero for July!

Xoxo,

Amanda and Team Mo

A few words from our Superhero herself…

Specifics: age, job title, children, partner?

Age: 32 years old

Job Title: Sales account manager and real estate investing

Family: My husband, Kevin, and I have 1 son (1.5 years old) and am expecting another boy come October. We are very active together. Kevin and I met at an ocean swim for triathlon training and now we enjoy camping and hiking as a family.

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.

I have been into fitness since I was 7. I started with soccer, swimming, cross country before focusing on swimming at age 12 with two practices a day. I do not really know a life without fitness!

Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?

I had knee surgery in 2017. The MRI showed older damage likely from UCLA days. Also, doing the IRONMAN in 2016 with little focus on proper strength exercises did not help. I am now focused on slowing down and doing workouts that are good for my body.

How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?

My mom signed me up for swim team when I was 7 to prepare for the Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard Program. I am very grateful she did because I fell in love with swimming which led to receiving a UCLA scholarship and competing in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic trials. I also completed 7 years of Junior lifeguards up to captain level and have the best childhood memories from those summers on the beach.

Please talk more about the actual changes in your life?

Keeping a consistent fitness routine has always helped with my day-to-day happiness, confidence and energy!

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

Fitness makes me feel good and happy. I can tell the difference if I even miss 2 days in a row. I will always prioritize fitness!

These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?

Spending quality time with my family, travel and making time to move my body.

How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?

Much better! A year ago, I was returning to work after having my first baby. I was trying to fit in at-home workouts every chance I got. It was not until a few months later that my husband encouraged me to start working out outside of our home. This is when I found Mo-mentum fitness which is a quick walk from home!

What is your favorite thing about Mo-Mentum Fitness?

The people and variety or workouts.

What would you say to the person who knows they need to start exercising but is afraid to start?

Just start with anything! It helps to find a gym like Mo-mentum that has a great community and supports all levels and ages. Planning out weeks and which workouts you would like to attend also helps to stay on schedule when you are busy or just getting started
