Meet our Superhero of the Month for June: Adam Williams!
Adam is a bright light at Mo-Mentum Fitness. He’s only 17 years old and he has had one of them most profound transformations this year. At just 17 years old, he’ll be “transforming” for a long time. Adam’s story, nonetheless, is special.
In the past year, we’ve watched Adam go from quiet, very thin and unsure about himself and the world, to the complete opposite. Adam is going to be a man who makes a significant impact in this world. He’s already impacted many of our lives here at Mo-Mentum. We’ve been fortunate enough to get to be a part of his journey to becoming the best version of himself.
Exercise is called a keystone habit, meaning it’s like a productive habit that like a key unlocks other life enhancing habits. At the most basic level, exercise releases “feel good” hormones like serotonin and dopamine in your brain. It also increases the release of Brain-derived Neurotropic Factor that’s like Miracle Grow for your brain cells. AND, exercise builds your muscle which is your healthiest and can be your largest endocrine organ in your body. When we build healthy, strong muscle, we immediately become healthier, physically, mentally and emotionally.
We chose Adam as our superhero of the month for several reasons including the gift he has shared with us, allowing us to be a part of his journey to his best life!
Adam, you make Mo-Mentum and this world a better place. Thank you for being a bright light in our lives!
Make sure to read Adam’s answers below to be inspired!
Xoxo,
Amanda and Team Mo

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.
Prior to fitness, my physical health deteriorated significantly due to anorexia. The relentless pursuit of an unrealistic body image fueled my obsession with calorie restriction, leading to malnutrition, muscle wasting, and severe weight loss. Fatigue, dizziness, and frequent illnesses became a daily struggle, as my body lacked the essential nutrients necessary for optimal functioning. Anorexia not only affected my physical health but also inflicted profound psychological distress. The distorted perception of my body caused immense dissatisfaction and self-loathing. Negative thoughts consumed my mind, creating a perpetual cycle of guilt, shame, and anxiety around food and body image. The constant need for control over my eating habits became a source of mental exhaustion, further exacerbating feelings of isolation and depression of my own mind and body, impacting my social relationships as well. Social gatherings centered around food became sources of immense stress and anxiety, causing me to withdraw from friends and family. The self-imposed isolation further perpetuated feelings of loneliness as I struggled to maintain a healthy balance between my disorder and meaningful connections. The impact of anorexia on my relationships was profound, straining bonds and hindering social development.
Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?
After being hospitalized, the turning point in my life arrived when I discovered the transformative power of fitness. Slowly but steadily, I transitioned from a mindset focused on thinness to one prioritizing overall health and well-being. Fitness became a medium through which I could rebuild my relationship with food, developing a healthier and more sustainable approach. The incorporation of regular exercise allowed me to rebuild my physical strength and vitality, combating the detrimental effects of anorexia.
How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?
My mother’s career as a fitness instructor facilitated open discussions about the importance of physical activity, healthy habits, and self-care. Her deep understanding of the positive impact fitness can have on one’s overall well-being instilled in me a sense of shared values. She provided unwavering support, encouraging me to embark on my own fitness journey and offering guidance along the way. Her presence as a mentor and cheerleader fueled my motivation to prioritize my health.
What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program
One of the most significant results of adopting a regular fitness program has been the shift in my mindset from restrictive eating to nourishing my body adequately. By recognizing the importance of providing my body with essential nutrients, I have transitioned away from arbitrary food restrictions towards a more balanced and holistic approach to eating. Understanding the significance of fueling my body appropriately to support physical activity has allowed me to appreciate food as a source of energy and nourishment.
Please talk more about the actual changes in your life?
Embracing fitness has led to a remarkable improvement in my self-perception. Engaging in physical activity has allowed me to witness the incredible capabilities of my body, highlighting its strength, resilience, and adaptability. By setting and achieving fitness goals, I have gained a deeper appreciation for my body’s abilities and the incredible things it can accomplish. This newfound perspective has shifted my focus from external appearance to recognizing the inherent value and worthiness of my physical self. Embracing a regular fitness routine has allowed me to step outside my comfort zones, leading to enhanced confidence in various aspects of life. Pushing my limits in the gym or trying new fitness activities has translated into a willingness to embrace challenges and take calculated risks in other areas. The mental fortitude developed through physical fitness has empowered me to confront obstacles with resilience and adaptability. This newfound confidence spills over into academic pursuits, social interactions, and personal relationships, allowing me to approach life with a bolder and more assertive mindset.
Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?
I make fitness a priority in my life because it allows me to take control of my health, challenges me to grow personally, provides a stress-relieving outlet, fosters social connections, and establishes healthy habits for the future. By prioritizing fitness, I am investing in my overall well-being, both physically and mentally, and setting a strong foundation for a fulfilling and healthy life ahead.
These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?
One of the key elements that brings me true happiness and a sense of peace is cultivating meaningful relationships. Connecting with loved ones, engaging in heartfelt conversations, and creating lasting memories with friends and family are invaluable to me. Sharing laughter, support, and experiences with the people I care about fosters a sense of belonging and deepens the bonds that bring me joy and emotional fulfillment.
How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?
Compared to a year ago, I feel significantly better and healthier both physically and mentally. Over the past year, I have made conscious efforts to prioritize my well-being, leading to noticeable improvements in various aspects of my life. On a physical level, I have experienced an increase in overall energy and vitality. By adopting a regular fitness routine, engaging in regular exercise, and focusing on proper nutrition, I have witnessed positive changes in my body. I have become stronger, more resilient, and have noticed improvements in my endurance and physical performance. This enhanced physical fitness has translated into a greater sense of confidence in my abilities and a higher level of self-esteem. In terms of mental well-being, I have developed healthier coping mechanisms and improved my ability to manage stress effectively. Through the incorporation of mindfulness practices and self-care routines, I have learned to prioritize my mental health and engage in activities that promote relaxation and self-reflection. This has resulted in reduced anxiety and an increased sense of inner peace and contentment.
