May 2021 Superhero

Meet our Superhero of the Month for May: Amanda Desuacido!

Have you met Amanda Desuacido?  If you work out at Mo-Mentum Fitness at 5:30am or on Saturdays, chances are you have!  However, because of Amanda’s smile, you would know if you’ve met her.

Do you know someone who smiles all the time and who has a warm energy that makes you feel happy?  That’s Amanda, aka “Little Amanda of the Mean Girls!”

Amanda is always smiling! Even when she has sweat dripping down her forehead in the middle of a hard set!

From the first day we met Amanda we were so impressed with this driven 23-year-old woman.  She knows what she wants for her life and shows up every day to achieve her goals and dreams.

Just a few weeks ago Amanda got to fly to Hawaii for her vacation, for a week.  Almost every morning at 8am our time 5AM Hawaii time, Amanda showed up for class on Zoom!  For a week we got to witness the beautiful Hawaiian sunrise while Amanda worked out with us.

You might be wondering why Amanda would workout at 5am on her vacation?  Well…. I think I know.

Amanda is not the type to complain.  I’ve never heard her complain.  I only see her smile and grunt through hard exercises!  How many people go on vacation, eat crappy and in Hawaii put on a bathing suit and then proceed to complain about how they feel so bloated??

Amanda is a quite warrior.  She knew that if she worked out every morning, she would start her day with energy and be less likely to fill up on crappy food, AND she would enjoy her vacation even more! She did the work and enjoyed her vacation…. all the while getting to enjoy her HOT 23-year-old body!

We chose Amanda for superhero of the month for May because she exemplifies dedication, determination, the power of leading with love and living in the solution.

Amanda brightens so many people’s day each time she walks in the doors of Mo-Mentum and she continues to make progress towards her goals and now towards new goals.  She’s an inspiration!

Amanda reminds us that taking care of our bodies at every age is the way to live vibrantly and continue to grow into our unlimited potential!

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.

I have always had a competitive spirit so as far back as I can remember I have been involved in sports. I have played a variety of sports throughout my time in school with volleyball being my favorite. Once I was in college, I had to figure out how to prioritize my health while being so busy with classes which was definitely a transition. I absolutely love working out and being able to be strong and fit to live the lifestyle that I want, so I don’t really remember my life before fitness ha!

How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?

Once I got married and began to launch a startup company, my life began to get extremely busy, and my workouts became almost non-existent for about three months. I began to feel bloated, anxious, & more irritable and knew it was because I was not prioritizing my health anymore. I noticed there was a gym right across the street from our house and I knew I had to try it out.  I went to the 5:30AM class and was sold on my first class! I fell in love with the community, the small gym feels, and the results I began to see.

What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?

I have noticed a significant change in my strength. I have only ever done cardio in my life and could barely even lift 8 pounds when I started. Now, I love being able to lift 20-pound weights and seeing the definition in my arms and back. More than just the strength, I am now more agile and mobile which is my ultimate goal as I get older since I want to be able to be an active mom someday and not just sit on the sidelines.

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

I make fitness a priority because I want to build it into my lifestyle. I feel like the best version of myself when I can get a good workout in & therefore am a better wife, boss, dog mom and friend. I want to live life to the absolute fullest and I can’t do that if I’m not working out and eating healthy.

These days, what makes truly happy and feel at peace?

My faith, my husband, my dog, traveling, working out & building community!

How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?

I am coming up on my 1 year with Momentum in July and I can’t think of a more wonderful community to be a part of. I have not only seen results, but just love waking up in the morning to see my “Mean Girls”, get in a good workout, bust out some dance moves, and of course, lots of laughs. I feel motivated, joyful and excited to know that working out will always be a huge part of my life!
