November Superhero

Meet our Superhero of the Month for November: Gregory Guy!

I’m so excited to announce our November 2020 Super Hero of the month, Gregory Guy.   In February or March of 2020, before all hell broke loose, we met Gregory. He attended classes here at Mo-Mentum with his friend Kari.  We fell in love with Gregory immediately.  He is full of energy, spunk, and love.

We began our Zoom classes on March 16th, 2020 and shortly after that Gregory tried our classes on Zoom.  We chose Zoom over Facebook live and any other platform because it was important for us to stay connected with our members, to be able to talk to each other and to be able to exercise like we were still together.

When Gregory joined us from Florida, it felt like he was right back at Mo-Mentum and we realized we were now able to extend our reach and to help people stay active and connected from anywhere!  We always knew this but in March we REALLY confirmed that Mo-Mentum Fitness is not just inside the four walls of our location, Mo-Mentum is our tribe.

Gregory is an incredible human.  You can feel his energy from Florida on our Zoom class! He’s an inspiration for so many reasons!  One of my favorite reasons is that he has LOST weight instead of gaining the

“COVID-19.”  He decided from the beginning that the quarantine could be an opportunity or a sentence and he chose opportunity.

In early October Alex especially received a HUGE SURPRISE when she realized Gregory was not on our screen from Florida, but instead of standing right behind her in our classroom!

Gregory is such an incredible example of how we can all create our best lives with what we have available to us right now.  When most people who didn’t already belong to a fitness community/ fitness studio (and some who did) stopped exercising altogether, Gregory STARTED a new program in his garage with a small TV scene, the spring and summer heat and his sweet golden retrievers.

He leaned in with 1980’s Workout Barbie (Alex) and another little blond tyrant (that’s me) yelling at him (in the most loving way) to keep going, work until you can’t, and rest until you can’t, shoulders down, squeeze your tummy-but don’t suck it in, rest, get back up—faster, slower, higher, lower….

Gregory has made very close friends from across the country and only recently been able to meet any of them in person.  When he’s not in our 6am Zoom class, it’s just not the same!

We love you Gregory, you are family and we’re so proud to get to call you the Mo-Mentum Fitness Super Hero of November 2020.

A few words from our Superhero himself…

Specifics: age, job title, children, partner?

I am 55 years old, I am self-employed as an Interior Designer and have owned my own firm for 25 years. We love Golden Retrievers so they are our children. At one point we had Four Goldens at one time! Most members know that we now have Ernie (5) and Freddie (2). I have been with Don for 25+ years and we hope to get married in the near future.

Describe what your life (and your health) was like before fitness.

I have always been into fitness, when I was younger, I attended a lot of Step and Aerobics classes at different studios. I have also had personal trainers and have always belonged to a gym, but as you get older life seems to get in the way and commitment to personal fitness and accountability sometimes takes a back seat to work, family, and other responsibilities.

Was there ever a low point or an experience that made your priorities change?

The fact that I was gaining weight durning COVID made me realize that I needed to seek an alternative to always eating and not exercising on a regular basis since my gym was closed.

How did fitness come into your life (or back into your life)?

What jump started my new fitness routine was when I had attended a class at Mo-Mentum Fitness with a friend wile I was working in California. When I returned to Florida, Amanda graciously said I could take some Zoom classes during the shut down. I started my Zoom fitness journey in April and liked the community spirit and supportive environment of Mo-Mentum so much that I joined as a member.

What kind of results have you seen since starting a regular fitness program?

If you look at the video from when I took the in-person class in March to now, Overall I have really lost weight in many areas of my body. Taking the classes has helped with mobility and strengthening my core. Sometimes I do low impact other times I am full throttle. I have less joint pain and I went from having to take breaks during the class to being able to complete the class to the very end.

Why do you make fitness a priority in your life?

I make fitness a priority so I can increase my blood flow, develop my balance, and increase mobility. It also helps me maintain a positive outlook on life, because I am in charge of maintaining a program.

These days, what makes you truly happy and feel at peace?

I enjoy my life in North Florida. While it was a bold move from California, since we literally knew no one here, I have found my bliss in our small beach town. I have been woith my partner for 25+ years and with our two Golden Retrievers, Ernie & Freddie, who at times think they are also members at Mo-Mentum, wanting to participate in the classes, we have built a happy life and we love to travel and experience new cultures.

How do you feel compared to 1 year ago?

I feel great and have more energy. I enjoy my Mo-Tribe that helps me maintain my accountability by showing up. I like the friendships I have developed via Zoom. I am so motivated to transform my body that I recently signed up for the Hot for the Holidays Challenge so I could take my fitness to the next level and lose some additional weight in the process. I have cancelled my gym membership at another chain gym and now I only do fitness with Mo-Mentum via Zoom!

Team Mo and I choose our SUPERHERO OF THE MONTH based on several important factors that we believe reflect the values on which the Mo-Mentum Fitness world-class culture has been built upon.

Mo-Mentum’s Core Values Include:

· Mindset for growth, constant never-ending learning – if you’re not growing, you’re shrinking.

· Over-deliver on all we do.

· Tribe – we all need a supportive and inspiring tribe, people we can be ourselves around and who nudge us to be one percent better every day.

· Transparency – We believe in honesty with ourselves and with others of course.

· Vitality – We believe in living vibrantly and living all out with courage and passion.

Love,

Amanda and Team Mo
